In our kitchen, we have a brown enamel stove that we bought for around $85. The couple who sold it to us was downsizing, and they explained that they had bought the stove when they first got married, in 1984. Both the burners and the oven have to be lit manually, and the stove wobbles, but I love the story of how it started with one young couple and ended up with another. I doubt it will be ours for very many years, but the Brown Monster is where most of these recipes turn into edible creations.
So, in honor of the stove, here are some recipes.
